This is the Great Northern Basin of the Nottingham Canal, below the lock gates now leading into the basin is the Erewah Canal, and the canal leading out the top of the basin is the Cromford Canal. There is a redundant stop lock where the Nottingham canal came into the basin, but as there is no longer nay Nottingham Canal this is now redunant.
