Anderton Boat Lift. Late breakfast stop.

Dutton Wharf Bridge to Middlewich (Town)

After a simple breakfast we did the usual engine check; water, oil, fan belt etc. but today we had a loose gear change cable. In fact where it attaches to the gearbox, it had completely come out.  After feeling around under the engine, we found the missing nuts and bolts and had re-attached them again. This was some thing we kept an eye on for the next few days.

Once every thing was sorted, it was of to Anderton, which we reached by mid morning after tackling two tunnels. We were lucky to find a mooring near to the lift and me and josh looked round while John went to try out the showers.

After a light lunch we were off for Middlewich. Soon after leaving Anderton, you briefly hit heavy industry or at least heavy chemical works, with pips weaving all over the place, even crossing the canal from site to site.

Just prior to Middlewich we hit a flight of 4 locks, lots more boats around, no more going straight in to locks, needing to moor up and I am left holding the boat by its centre line while Josh and John go and sort out what is happening and operate the locks.

We stopped for the day about 17:30, back to a more reasonable length of day travelling than the last couple. Josh and John went of and did some shopping at the local supermarket, before I made tea.
