Church Minshull viewed from NB Dawn

Nantwich to Church Minshull - Gain Josh.

Sue goes to the supermarket, just for one or two things! I talk to this lady.

Canal boat Scenery

Her husband had sold the narrowboat, so she was making do with this. But she was very proficient, and recommended quite a few places that we should try seeing while we were not on our usual turf.

Sue came back we had lunch, and then Josh turned up, so we decided it would be nice to move off to day, while it was nice. We initially go up to the boat yard where there is a water point and fill up for a while and then bid goodbye to Nantwich and slowly wind our way pass the moored boats and out in to the country side,

We first pass the junction to the LLangollen, (I was expecting some thing a bit more exciting!) then we are at Barbridge junction before we know it. This is where the Middlewich branch forms a "T" with Shroppershire Union, with Union forming the top of the "T" and the Branch forming the upright. If you are leaving the branch you have to turn either left or right, There is only the concrete side of the towpath in straight front. So to our interest, ( and amusement) a hire boat comes strait out of the branch in front of us, (at some speed) and appears to make very little effort to turn right or left or even stop! Thump! ! ! The front rises into the air, it pauses. . . then just as quick, slides down into the canal. Stillnes. Then after bouncing of the towpath bank, the steerer seems to realise what the tiller is for, and turns towards Chester. We then turn sharp right into the branch. (I'm getting better at the narrow canals, I'm not hitting so many things at the moment. Hee Hee Heee

We pass several places that look like they would make nice stopping places for the night, but they are already full of boats. We reach Church Minshull, with signs saying "Visitors Moorings" and no boats on them. We stop and try to moor up, and find out why there are no boats, there is a ledge probably 6 to 12 inches wide under the water sticking out several inches, which using our bumpers can not stop the boat grinding against, then we can see a boat way up in front, so we go just past them, and see that we are no longer on the "Visitors Moorings", and also the ledge is not there either! So we moor up for the night, eat tea with a lovely view of Church Minshull" do jigsaws have bedtime drinks and so to bed.
