Riddlesden

We are on the Leeds and Liverpool canal, most scenic section just south east of Skipton. These pictures were taken in May 2007

We start our journey from the bottom of a garden in Riddlesden, near Keighley. This journey is all about bridges, swing bridges, and timing, will you allow some one else to beat you to the bridge, so they can open it for you?

Silsden

We now come to Silsden, a small village on the canal, going towards Skipton, by road you would be going to Ilkley and unlikley to stop as the single narrow road is very busey and crowded. Visualy it could be seen as being atractive, with a small pond in the centre, but as a car driver you miss all that.

The towing path is uncared for and ruttered and the dog walkers like to keep it to them selves, by not clearing up after there dogs.

Kildwick

After stopping a Silsden for some nourishment, we move on, the next village we come across is Kildwick. The only thing there is a very pleasant pub, which we have used a couple of times, but it doese get very busey.

Low Bradley

After encountering the charm of Kildwick we come across the village of Low Bradley, at first glance is there is plenty of charm, with the criceteers in there whites, playing on the village green, but what is best is holding up all the traffic at the large swing bridge!

Skipton the gateway to the dales.

On leaving Low Bradley, we are into the suburbs of Skipton, gliding past Snagils and past a nice canal side pub, which we resisted this time and on to the centre of Skipton, where we moored NB Dawn for the night.
