Hapton to   East Marton -  Drop Sue of at Burnley.

We had moored at the visitors moorings last night, which had been noisey due to redevelopment work taking place nearby. Hopefully by next year that will be completed, and the moorings will be quit again.

We set off, this part of the journey is all about the M65 - chugging along it keeps us company for most of the day.

We duck under the M65 at Molly Wood bridge and then shortly later we duck under it again at Halstead bridge.  A little later we hit Rose Grove and the British Waterways service point. We keeping going and duck under the M65 again at junction 10 then immediately we are into a tunnel wich takes back under the junction. On leaving the tunnel the canal takes a sharp right past a old mill and then we are going over the M65.

We are now making our way through the back of Burnley, passing many old buildings and mills. We past an old wharf part of which now seems to be office space and the rest a pub, next door is a museum about the local area.

Sue has decied to get off in Burnley, so she jumps ship as we go past a bridge, it is only a short walk down hill to the bus station and a direct bus back to Keighley. Where she can get a local bus up the hill and home.

Meanwhile we keep going across Burnley embankment, we can see Sue's bus pulling out! whoops. At the end of the embankment, dose a slight wobble and on the turn, there is scaffolding in the canal, I think it supposed to warn of a collapsed wall, that has gone into the canal, now you need some thing to warn you of the disintegrating scaffolding.

The canal makes its way past a park, which has seen much better days. Then areas which could be better, and not helped by the M65 being so close.  Eventual the canal goes under Barden Mill and Barden Mill Shopping centre is on the far side. They have kindly put up two sets of landing stages, for boats to moor at. One by the bridge and the there at the far end by there restaurant. A bit further on is there new marina and the environment is far more pleasant now. Soon we are at the bottom of the Barrowford locks. We decide to take lunch and see if any body else is going up. Nobody turns up, so we tackle it by our selves, or rather Josh does.

Foulridge Wharf in July 2007.

We keep going and then we tackle Foulridge Tunnel, and then past by Foulridge Wharf, nice food, but not today. On we go past Salterforth, nice pub, but not today, On we go to "Lower park Marina" where we take on a full tank of fuel and fill up our reserves. (you never know.)

We now head out to East Marton, which will leave us with in easy reach of our home moorings. We tuck our selves in before the high road bridge at East Marton and after our tea we take a slow walk up to the pub and have a drink. We notice that most of the other patrons are from the other moored boats and most are eating out.

and so we go home and take a bedietime drink and so to bed.
