The fallen tree, as seen on TV.
Picture taken by our neighbor's.

Our large tree, decides it had enough of standing upright and lies down. John was in the house by him self, and heard a loud noise, and went to investigate around the house, and found nothing amiss. !0 to 15 minutes later, there was a really loud crash, and he didn't have to look far to see what had caused it, the large tree had fallen, just catching the side of the house, removing the very top of the chimney stack and a few tiles. (We are awaiting a survey at present, to see exactly what damage has been done.)

When John went out side, he met the next door owner and some others who had all heard the noise, and all inspected the damage. John then rang me (Robert) and asked if I was sitting down! and told me the interesting news.

When we arrived home, being un-shore in how to deal with the situation we called, up the fire brigade, (local number not 999), and they sent out one of there men to check out what the situation was, (were we in any danger?) On arrival, he inspected the tree and then called out the local authority tree specialist for the area.

Between them they decided, that a lot of the weight of the tree was being taken by the house, as most of the bigger branches of the tree were hooked over the edge of the house. The position of the tree seemed stable, so it was decided to leave it alone, but they recommended that we should not sleep in the bedroom nearest the tree.

Me and Sue decided, to get the camping beds out and sleep down stairs. (We did consider using Josh's bed room as he was away, but that looked even more dangerous?)
